Attack The Block Review

I did enjoy Attack the block, besides the fact that I had heard so many criticisms about the film being too childish, not funny and boring, I thought that the plot was very creative, unlike something that I myself have seen before, no matter what someone else might say about it being too similar, for me I thought that the plot was well thought through, creative and unfortunately I did feel that the film could of easily been a 12, possibly even a 12A, besides the unnecessary swearing a handful of times in a scene, and the constant use of drugs, which I feel that the film would not of lost any interest or appreciation for the film had it of had no drugs involved, even if the plot did depend on the ‘weed room’, I felt that the youths using the drugs could have been removed. I have a large amount of respect for the director of this film for the monsters in this film with not having the CGI effects with such a low budget, as I felt that the monsters looked legitimate and frankly quite daunting, and they would of frightened 12/13 year olds, had they of been able to watch the film. I do not think that the word comedy should have been used for the genre of the film, as I did not think that there were enough punch lines for it to be classed as a comedy. However saying that I have seen films which have apparently been comedies (such as ‘Jack and Jill’) which have had fewer punch lines than this film. Saying that I do not think that the film should have been classed as a horror either, as even though I did jump a few times, whether that’s just me being silly I do not know, but I feel that with the comedy/horror film genre being so reputable due to films such as the ‘Scary Movie’ set, that the film should not of been classed as this. In conclusion, I did really enjoy the film, I definitely wouldn’t mind watching it again, however I do not think it would be a film that I would recommend to peers in the future, but if I see it on the TV then I wouldn’t mind watching it again. I think that this film would be perfect for a family to view together on a Sunday afternoon.
