Skins, Series One, Episode One.

Firstly, through camera angles we are shown at the beginning when we are first shown Tony, the camera is zooming out of his face. So when we watch it we are first introduced to him, and then as the shot widens we are introduced into his life, getting to know t
he type of person he is, and what he is interested in, all by his bedroom. Also when he is doing his excersises in the morning we do not get shown all of the excersises, this is to show that he is doing lots of different excersises over a long period of time, but the programme would be boring if there was 15 minutes of him doing press ups. Also, when he is doing his exercises we are only shown the important parts of his body which go with the muscles he is working on. Then when he is looking at his neighbour, through the camera angles we get to see exactly what he does, so it gives the impression that he is a bit of a 'Peeping Tom'.

Secondly, through clothing and mise-en-scene, we are shown that When Tony is doing his exercises he is only in his boxers, this is more than likely to show 'masculinity' and also to represent most teenage boys, who sleep in their underwear. Also his bedding is quite interesting, as it gives us the impression that he is a bit of a ladies man, or just that he thinks that he is a ladies.

Finally, through sound we are shown by The non-diegetic sound, when it is used in the first scene it is the alarm clock and then his own music. This gives us an impression that he is a nomal teenager, who likes their music, but is into rap-music. Also when he is sneaking out of the house you can hear his Dad shouting and swearing and getting very stressed. The same when he is leaving the house 2 minutes later.

  1. Thanks, Kelly.
It is important to understand Tony, as you say and we see what makes up his routine. Avoid using subheadings in your writing.
